The issue: a lack of Project Quality Control
This shouldn’t be a common error, but incredibly it is.
Once we have the Architecture project, the structural engineer should make the calculation for the structure, slabs, beams, and columns. These new elements logically interfere on the Architect’s project, but of course, always these new elements must be under control.
In this particular case, in one of the firsts floors of the building, suddenly appears an important column in the middle of a tight washroom, affecting the element of the washbasin. It is important to realize that on the higher floors, the incidence logically was less due to the minor requirements of the loads, but still the incidence was also important. But on the firsts floors the incidence is huge, because the functionality of the washrooms is almost nullified.
But it’s not only a technical issue. We can think also on sales brochures already circulating around the clients, where of course, these pillars were not shown. This kind of implication, is even more significant for us, because it involves the client and at last the credibility of the company.
So, we can only avoid these kinds of errors if we are able to detect them technically in advance enough checking the Project in the frame of the Quality Control well defined in the design phase and also keeping the proper coordination between the different parts of the execution project, between the engineers involved.
You can get some of our resources regarding Projects QC posted in our web.
Also let us know your comments in our form bellow regarding your thoughts about the implications of these kinds of errors, if you had these experiences, or if you need any other information for your building projects.
Many thanks in advance for your confidence.
